“Our goal for the I-30 LC was to take the concept of a double cutaway, fully-hollow, P90 equipped guitar and refine it to the extent that it offers something truly new for today's players. The result is one of the most acoustically responsive and versatile electric guitars we have ever offered.

The lightweight, "trestle" braced body of the I-30 LC has been refined through extensive R&D, and is the distillation of knowledge gleaned from our popular I-35 and Statesman LC series. The trestle brace design directly couples the neck and tail block, creating exceptional strength and acoustical energy transference, while also allowing for a lightness and responsiveness that is both a tactile and musical joy to experience.

Playing the I-30 LC, you can easily feel the acoustic energy travel through the symmetric arches and re-curves of the top and back. These plates have been custom laminated and voiced for a tonality that is acoustic guitar-like in its resonance and dynamic response, but focused and feedback resistant enough to be utilized in jazz, blues, rock n' roll and many other styles. Our new custom designed trapeze tailpiece provides just the right amount of "give" for a relaxed string feel and effortless playability.
Lollar Dog Ear P90s are perfectly matched to the instrument's acoustic response and offer a wide palette of tones from rich jazzy warmth to 1960's British Invasion style chime. The I-30LC has been one of the most exciting electric offerings from Collings ever since its inception. Capturing the magic of the thinline hollowbody-style popularized by the Fab Four, it’s a guitar that balances the acoustic excellence that Collings have been delivering for decades but reinterpreted for players that need a little more volume (and a lot more attitude!). This particular example is a rare one in that it’s a model that doesn’t technically exist! Inspired by the elegant indulgences of the I-35LC Deluxe, this I-30LC also features the “Deluxe” package even though it’s not presented as an option for this model. We’ve done this type of build before with a stunning I-30LC Deluxe in Olympic White with all Tortoiseshell & Ebony appointments. We realized that the same build would look incredibly sleek in Jet Black and, thus, this I-30LC Deluxe was brought to life!

Now, no set of deluxe appointments matter if the rest of the guitar doesn’t perform well. Luckily, the I-30LC is yet another superlative example of Collings’ commitment to their craft. All of the hallmarks of a Collings are here: exceptional clarity, harmonic sophistication, rich acoustic vibrancy, and balance throughout all of its registers. Its tones come courtesy of two Lollar Dogear P-90s which cover everything from mellow jazz to raucous rock’n’roll bark with the mere twist of a knob or flick of a switch while also allowing so much of the guitar’s acoustic quality to shine through. Meanwhile, its fully hollow construction allows the player to feel every note resonate throughout the guitar, but never at the cost of unwanted feedback thanks to its thin body consisting of their custom Maple Laminate top, back, and sides. The end result is a guitar that feels simultaneously fresh and familiar with a responsiveness that has to be experienced to be believed.
