1965 Polara S-100 (Modified)
Although originally a major archtop builder, Guild became widely known for their solid body guitars in the 60s. In 1963 they launched the Jet Star S-50, Thunderbird S-200 and the Polara S-100. This particular Polara is a great example of the 60s era Guilds. These models all contained a “kickstand” embedded in the back of the guitar, which has led to the rarity of these models due to injuries occurring from it’s poor design. Not a good idea. Overall, they have retained a certain amount of cool and have been played by several well-known players including Muddy Waters and Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. Basically, this is a cool, funky alternative to a Les Paul Special with P90s.
Cosmetic Condition:
This guitar has a few condition issues. The original Hagstrom single coil pickups have been replaced with P90s and the wiring harness has been updated with an Eastman T59/V harness. It has the original Grover tuners and the original Hagstrom bridge and tremolo. There is a significant repaired crack in the neck (possibly from the aforementioned “kickstand”, which has been replaced by a fixed strip of plastic). The original finish has faded and there are a few dings and blemishes that you would expect in a guitar of this age. – FAIR CONDITION
